Disclaimer: I have not shot this ammo as of yet. After having searched around for quality ammo at an affordable price I stumbled across these rounds. I was looking for ammo that was not full metal jacket which could provide the ballistic advantage needed for hunting deer with a Russian Mosin Nagant carbine. As soon as I test out the rounds I will provide an update.

I hunt in Indiana, and law requires use of soft point or hollow point ammunition (FMJ is banned for deer). Due to the recent Russian ammo restriction talks and the ongoing ammo shortage, I was left with few options of topping up my deer cartridges, but Winchester comes in with a solution, with similar grain and ballistic profile to the Prvi Partizan ammo I usually carry for deer. A bit pricey compared to pre-pandemic costs, but isn’t everything.

I purchased this not really knowing what to expect. For the last 16 years I have been using PPV 150gr SPBT, but they seem to have fallen off the market as I cant find them anywhere. I decided to give this ammo a shot, literally. Im using an old russian sniper rifle M44. Most of the PPV I've been shooting seemed to shoot high 8" high at 50 yards and 16" at 100 yards. These did not have that same plane and shot relatively flat for the old girl. At 50 yards I was running a tight 1.5" group. I was thoroughly impressed. The real test was yet to come, will it work on a deer. I had my first chance in early October, a healthy 8pt stepped out at about 7:30pm, he was a mere 30 yards from me, I squeezed that Timney trigger as I put the cross hairs on that shoulder, that round looked like a rocket going out that barrel in the early darkness. Found my 8pt about 30 yards from where I landed the target. That JSP knocked a whole into that buck about the size of a quarter with no exit, which kinda surprised me. Plenty of muzzle energy for deer hunting. Im super thrilled to find a round that shoots fairly flat out of a 74 year old rifle. I wish it didnt take me this long to find this out, as I have missed a whole lot of deer shooting the PPV. They are somewhat costly, so you may want to invest in a laser bore sighter, it will help you in the long run to save on ammo costs. For what I paid for these, I could have purchased four boxes of PPV
